Clark awarded Environmental Council of the States Founders Award

The University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) announced the selection of Liesl Eichler Clark as U-M’s first Director of Sustainable Climate Action Engagement. In this role, Clark will lead a new initiative aimed at linking the university’s expanding sustainability research, collaborations, and engagement with external partners to accelerate climate action across the state of Michigan and beyond. The Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) has awarded Liesl Eichler Clark, U-M’s Director of Climate Action Engagement, with the 2023 ECOS Founders Award for exemplary past leadership of ECOS initiatives. The award recognizes the impacts of Clark's contributions while serving in Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s cabinet as the director of Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, which she did for four years prior to joining U-M in 2023. This includes leading important initiatives on environmental justice, climate and energy, and PFAS, with a focus on consensus building and civility.
