THE DANA BUILDING

Students conduct much of their classwork inside the Samuel T. Dana Building. Despite its historic registry, the Dana Building is a state-of-the-art example of green renovation, featuring materials that were recycled or manufactured from renewable resources.

Inside the Dana Building, environmental principles are taught,upheld, and demonstrated to and by the community. Dana’s sun and shade gardens are landscaped exclusively with native plants, and it has earned LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The Dana Building contains numerous labs and centers, as well as the Enviro Art Gallery. Shared areas offer cozy spots and open spaces for social gatherings or study. Many of our students describe the Dana Building as “a home away from home” and the SEAS community as their “extended family.”

ALUMNI AROUND THE WORLD

With one of the largest alumni networks in the world (over 611,000 alumni and counting), University of Michigan graduates are some of the proudest alumni around. Anywhere on the globe, if you go out wearing a Michigan shirt, someone will greet you with "Go Blue!"

When U-M offered the nation’s first college-level forestry course in 1881, it staked a claim to environmental leadership for decades to come. Since then, our school—which has been called, successively, the School of Forestry and Conservation, SNR (the School of Natural Resources), SNRE (the School of Natural Resources and Environment), and now SEAS—has trained a total of 10,000+ students to practice and promote responsible stewardship of our natural world.

As a SEAS student, you are part of a tight knit community within a global network. Our alumni are working all over the world to protect the earth’s resources and achieve a sustainable society.

When you join the SEAS student community, you gain access to this immense network. As leaders and accomplished professionals, SEAS alumni provide invaluable guidance to students and recent graduates. Alumni support plays an active role mentoring students to become the next leaders of environment and sustainability.

SEAS Events

You'll find a full slate of environmental career forums; lectures by the likes of Vice President Al Gore, National Geographic photographer Jimmy Chin, prominent geographer Mei-Po Kwan, father of environmental justice Dr. Bob Bullard, and the Dalai Lama; college-wide events throughout the year and more are located on the SEAS events calendar.

University of Michigan Events

There will always be something to do on University of Michigan’s active campus. Check the U-M events website for everything from sporting events and film festivals to symposia and musical performances.

Ann Arbor Events

Ranked the #1 most educated city in America by Forbes magazine, Ann Arbor is a national center for the arts. Almost every day you will find cultural and intellectual events such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Berlin Philharmonic, and concerts brought to campus by the University Musical Society. Nationally acclaimed events like the Ann Arbor Art Fair draw nearly half a million visitors every year.
