Prof. Mohai appointed to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
U-M School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) Professor Paul Mohai has been appointed the Senior Policy Advisor at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Mohai will join the Office of Environmental Justice to serve as an expert on quantitative methods, data, and tools to assess the impacts of multiple environmental and health burdens in socioeconomically vulnerable and environmentally overburdened communities in order to advance environmental justice on a national scale.
He will work to develop decision-making tools and national policies that take into account cumulative and disproportionate environmental burdens in the permitting, enforcement, cleanup, and rulemaking process, and in providing a framework for addressing health inequities caused by disproportionate exposures that are exacerbated by racial, economic, and geographic factors.
Mohai teaches in SEAS' Environmental Justice program.
